William Robert Campbell, Jr., in an automobile accident on
January 8, 2006. He was 54. Born in Columbus, Georgia, Mr.
Campbell lived in New Orleans for almost thirty years. After
graduating from the University of Georgia in 1973, he was an
Atlanta police officer for a short time before deciding to
attend Tulane Law School. He graduated in 1979 and began his
law career in the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office,
but became more interested in representing the accused than
in prosecuting them. For the past 20 years he worked as a
criminal defense lawyer. At the time of his death, he had a
solo practice and was also a Regional Supervisor for the
Louisiana Appellate Project, representing indigent
defendants on appeal. Mr. Campbell was the son of Mary Campbell of Atlanta and the late William Robert Campbell, Sr. He is also survived by his wife, Marie LeBoeuf Campbell of New Orleans, sisters Cathy Thurmond, Connie Murphy, Colleen Campbell, and Kelly Campbell, and a brother, Casey Campbell, of Atlanta and New York, brothers-in-law, Brooks Thurmond and Larry Murphy, two sisters-in-law, Lisa Campbell of Atlanta, and Denny LeBoeuf of New Orleans, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Campbell was a passionate golfer whose love for the game provided him with some of his happiest hours, as did his beloved terriers, Jake and JoAnn. He was a longtime friend of Bill Wilson, and active in carrying the message. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. |
